Cinders to Clay - The Pioneer Years

New Zealand's great oak tree of speedway racing stands tall and has now had its roots laid bare in a tell-all book by Harry Chambers which traces it's lineage and history right back to the beginnings in 1935, even before Western Springs opened for the first time in 1937. Harry reveals the events, the cars and the people who were the movers and shakers behind the establishment of speedway racing in NZ and then goes on the chronicle the birth of midget racing at the grand opening of Western Springs Speedway on Christmas day 1937 and the following meetings. There's no doubting the phenomenal success of midget racing and now the complete story of its history is told in exquisite detail with never-before-seen photos supporting the text. This is a great read and a fitting tribute to those pioneers who went on to become legends. You don't have to be into speedway to enjoy this book.
